10 Reasons Why Water is Your Best Friend

Your body (or as I like to refer to as, your spirit shell) is made up of 60% H2O, which means it’s no surprise that this clear liquid goodness is your body’s best friend. Plenty of water allows your body to function at it’s best – mentally and physically. If you aren’t already convinced, or need some reassurance, here are 10 reasons why water is truly your BFF.  

  1. Water prevents cancer.
    No lie – there is tons of research that says staying hydrated can reduce risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50%, and possibly reduce breast cancer risk as well.

  2. Water improves mood.
    Drinking water is so beneficial that it actually improves our state of mind. You don’t even have to be severely in need of it to benefit. Even mild dehydration has been shown to impact moods negatively.

  3. Water energizes us.
    Eyes getting a little heavy? You may be feeling the beginning stages of dehydration. Count on your good friend to save the day! A couple glasses of water could help you conquer the sleepiness.

  4. Living near water is good for our health.
    There’s a study showing that good health is more common the closer one lives to the ocean. Whether it’s the distance to sea air, or the ability to soak up sunshine on the beach, spending time near the water makes us healthier

  5. Water promotes weight loss.
    Water acts as a natural appetite suppressant by reducing hunger and food intake (by filling up your belly if consumed prior and in between meals). Water also raises your metabolism and has zero calories!

    FUN FACT: Burn more calories when you drink cold water because your body uses extra calories to warm the water up to body temperature.

  6. Water improves skin complexion.
    Water naturally moisturizes your skin, keeping it soft, fresh and smooth. Water also gets rid of wrinkles – making it the best anti-aging treatment around.

  7. Water is a natural headache remedy.
    Step away from the pills and pick up a glass of your best friend. Water helps relieve and prevent headaches, migraines, and  back pains – all of which are commonly caused by dehydration. Treat the dehydration and…you guessed it – kill the headache.

  8. Water flushes out waste and bacteria.
    Our digestive system needs water to function properly. Waste is flushed out in the form of urine and sweat. If we don’t drink water, we don’t flush out waste and it collects in our body causing a SH%# ton of problems.

  9. Water helps prevent memory loss.  
    As we age, so does our brain. Water helps reduce the risk of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

  10. Water lubricates the joints.
    Water is the main lubricant in the joints and spine. Drinking enough water daily can help remove the accumulation of acid waste in the joints, such as uric acid, which can cause inflammation and pain. Water also provides the cushion in the spinal discs and joint cavities – preventing arthritis and back pain.
